The Session Experience: Frequently Asked Questions
Newborn & Maternity Sessions
What happens if my baby arrives earlier or later than their due date?
Don’t worry at all—this is completely normal! When you book a newborn session, I reserve a flexible spot on my calendar around your due date. Once your baby is born, simply send me a message within the first 48 hours, and we will finalize the exact date for your session.
What happens if my baby cries or won’t sleep during a newborn photo session?
As a professional newborn photographer, I build plenty of extra time into our session specifically for feeding, soothing, and diaper changes. Your baby’s comfort and safety are my absolute priorities. We follow their lead entirely, and there is never any rush. Some of the most beautiful, timeless images are actually captured while your baby is awake and looking peacefully at the camera.
Do I need to bring my own props, wraps, or outfits for the baby?
No, you do not need to bring a thing. My St. Catharines studio is filled with a beautiful selection of a variety of coloured and neutral toned wraps, blankets, and timeless props. During our initial consultation, we will discuss your style and color preferences to design a setup that complements your home.
Family Sessions & Logistics
What should our family wear for an outdoor photo session?
Wardrobe plays a massive role in the final look of your portraits. I recommend cohesive, coordinating colors rather than perfectly matching outfits. Timeless neutrals, soft creams, earthy tones, and subtle textures photograph beautifully. To get a head start on planning your session’s look, explore my Styling Guide to make styling your family effortless.
What happens if it rains on the day of our outdoor family session?
I monitor the weather closely leading up to your session. If the forecast calls for heavy rain or unsafe weather, we will make a joint decision to reschedule to a backup date. Since I only take a limited number of clients each month, I always maintain open dates to accommodate weather reschedules so you don’t lose your session.
How long does it take to see our photos after the session?
Within two weeks of your session, we will hold your ordering consultation. This is the exciting moment where you get to see your beautiful, fully edited image gallery for the first time. Together, we will select your favorite images and design the custom artwork, albums, or framing options that will display beautifully in your home. Physical products are typically ready for delivery within 4 to 6 weeks following your design order.
Can we include our dog or family pet in our portrait session?
Yes! Pets are family too (as a dog mom myself, I completely get it). We can absolutely incorporate your pup into an outdoor family session. We will simply plan a few specific setups so we can capture those genuine connections with your four legged family members safely and smoothly.
Do you photograph large, extended family groups or multi generational milestones?
Yes, I love capturing multi generational family stories. Whether you are celebrating a grandparent’s milestone anniversary or gathering the entire extended family together in Niagara, I can skillfully guide and pose large groups. My unhurried, enjoyable approach ensures that we get beautiful group portraits alongside smaller breakdowns of individual families and grandchildren without anyone feeling overwhelmed.
Design Process
How do I know what size wall art will look best in my home?
Choosing the perfect size is completely stress-free. I use specialized design software where I take a quick photo of your actual wall (whether it’s above your couch in St. Catharines or over your mantel in Niagara-on-the-Lake) and digitally place your portraits directly onto it, accurately scaled to size. You will be able to see exactly how a 16×20 canvas compares to a 24×30 portrait, or view a custom gallery wall mockup before we ever print a thing.
Do I have to hang the heavy frames and canvases myself?
Not at all! Part of my full service boutique experience means I handle everything from start to finish. Once your custom framed portraits or gallery wrapped canvases arrive from my lab, I will personally deliver and install your artwork in your home. I bring the hammer, levels, and hanging hardware to ensure everything is perfectly secure and beautifully showcased, leaving you with zero guesswork.
Do you include digital files with the photo collections?
Yes, absolutely. While my studio’s primary focus is creating tangible heirlooms that live on your walls rather than getting lost on a phone, I know you want to share your joy with loved ones. For every portrait you select as custom wall art or choose to include in your luxury heirloom album, you will receive a complimentary, social media ready digital file perfect for archiving or sharing online.
